The High Judiciary and Prosecutorial Council and the Agency for Gender Equality of Bosnia and Herzegovina kick off the implementation of the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions

Last 28^th November UNDP, in partnership with the Agency for Gender Equality of BiH as co-lead institution, kickstarted a two day consultative event and training to support the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) in implementation of Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions. Implementation of gender equality standards is of utmost importance as the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC) is the single managing body responsible for guaranteeing the independence of judges and the autonomy of prosecutors throughout the country and regulating their careers. The HJPC BiH appoints, promotes, and disciplines judges and prosecutors at all levels in the country, and is responsible for advising other levels of government about judicial budgets and administration.

UNDP has become the lead agency in Gender Equality Certification programmes through its innovative Gender Equality Seal programme. The programme is the result of UNDP’s continuous efforts to implement its mandate to mainstream gender into all its programmes and interventions. It has motivated UNDP personnel, private companies, and public institutions to add a gender lens to their work to help accelerate the changes needed to reach the global gender equality goals. UNDP has piloted the global initiative for the last two years, aiming to support and acknowledge the efforts of public institutions toward achieving substantive equality between women and men within the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Since mid-2022 UNDP Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina has kick started both private and public Seal projects. The Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions has been anchored with success into the Justice and Security Sector, which leads UNDP work contributing to supporting national judicial institutions.
